Peninsula/Bay Cities Swim School

The PBC Swim School operates in direct conjunction with the Day Camp at Miraleste.

The pool at Miraleste Intermediate School provides an exceptional setting for children of all ages to become water safe and learn swimming techniques.

Classes have a maximum of four children and are available in a series of ten 30 minutes lessons, scheduled five days a week for a period of two weeks.

Transportation for Campers

While campers may be dropped off and picked up by their parents, many choose to be transported each day by camp van. Van transportation can be a fun way to extend the camp day by allowing extra time for campers to share experiences and build lasting friendships.

Day Camp & Swim School History

In 1963, recognizing the need for new and better kinds of children’s recreation, Greg Schneider established Westrey Swim School. Westrey’s philosophy of providing recreation with learning and purpose by offering only the finest instruction by the most qualified staff quickly caught on.

The success of the swim school and the appeal of this new “Activity With Direction” approach prompted the opening of Westrey Day Camp in 1965 followed by Westrey Nursery School in 1967. In 1968, Westrey achieved the goal of establishing a year round Day Camp with the addition of “After School Club.”

Greg’s programs continued to evolve and grow throughout the 1970s and 1980s with the additions of Tocaloma Day Camp, Catalina Island Camps, and Foxboro Ranch.

In all, tens of thousands of children have come from around the world to enjoy a secure, enriching, and, more than anything, fun environment offering the tools for growth and development, self-confidence and success.

For nearly forty years, children have been guided by “Activity With Direction” to become anything they believed they could be.

In the early 1990s, Greg recognized that the expectations for recreational programs has changed while the need to provide a secure, enriching, and fun camp experience has remained the same.

Peninsula Bay Cities Summer Activities (PBC)  was built on four decades of experience for a single purpose: to enrich the lives of children.

Each staff member is part of a long and rich history of building character and confidence, of making an invaluable difference in the lives of children (and adults).

As a counselor or specialist, swim instructor or support staff member, your responsibilities and impact reach far beyond the hours and days at camp.

...For Everyone at PBC...

Camp Mission & Philosophy

Our Mission is to enrich the lives of children.

Peninsula/Bay Cities Summer Activities offers “Activity With Direction” to provide each child with:

A Safe and Enriching Summer experience

An opportunity to develop and enhance self esteem

An opportunity to develop social & recreational skills

An opportunity to develop respect for others and lasting friendships

An opportunity to become aware of our natural surroundings and to promote a sense of responsibility for them

An opportunity to learn new skills and develop a new interest

The opportunity to develop moral and spiritual values

The opportunity to laugh, learn, and grow in a safe and caring atmosphere

Why We Are Here!

Each of us who has committed this summer to enriching the lives of children is here for only one reason:

The Children.

They are our first and only priority; without them we have nothing; without us, they cannot enjoy all of the rewards and benefits we have to offer.

As staff members, everything we say and everything we do must reflect the best interest of each child’s experience.

Swim Instructors and AdventureTrek Staff must have current and valid

lifeguard certification.
